Refresh Body and Spirit
Famous for hot springs, skiing,
nozawana pickles, and the hato-guruma pigeon carts,
Nozawa Onsen is nestled in the lower part of Mount Kenashi (alt.
1650 meters).
Some 30 sources provide abundant water for the many public and
private hot spring
baths which visitors and residents have enjoyed over the years.
Culture and Tradition Thrive
Tradition climaxes in the
Dosojin Fire Festival held on the 15th of January and
in the Lantern Festival of the Yuzawa Shrine held on the 8th

Japanese Skiing At Its Best
The slopes, the facilities, and
the snow combine to make the ski area at
Nozawa Onsen one of Japan’s finest.
From 1930 when Hannes Schneider demonstrated his Arlberg
technique here,
Nozawa Onsen has remained a front-runner in the Japanese world of
skiing.
The ski area has 29 lifts servicing more than 31 kilometers of
ski trails.
The Great Outdoors and Hot Spring Baths
The 13 public bath houses along with the
Kurhaus Nozawa set the mood in this village of hot springs.
Adding to the mystique are the boiling hot Ogama spring
where villagers prepare vegetables,
and the early morning market where local specialties are sold
during the summer season.
